Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and Rescue Board to continue training Ukrainian EOD technicians
The next training session of the development cooperation project for Ukrainian EOD technicians takes place in Estonia on 3-7 June 2019. The training will be participated by seven people from Lviv and five people from Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs – altogether nine students and three instructors.
“We are pleased to state that our activity in the project is valued highly and it is gradually expanding now including not only Lviv University but also Kharkiv University,” the Director of Rescue College of EASS Häli Allas is proud to talk about our high-quality lecturers and training programme.
“The aim of the inclusion of Kharkiv University was to offer the same basic knowledge to both universities to ensure better coverage of their study programmes, as both universities are responsible for providing higher education in EOD in Ukraine,” the leader of the cooperation project and advisor of the Rescue Board explosives ordnance disposal Arno Pugonen explains. He adds that the inclusion of two universities also allows to create better mutual synergy.
In the course of the project “The development of contemporary professional higher education in explosive ordnance disposal at Lviv State University of Life Safety” financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainians pass various training sessions in compliance with the international mine action standards (IMAS) to help them in developing their own training system.
The project includes altogether three one-week training sessions, the current one is the second. The previous course took place in November 2018 and the last session is planned for August this year. The third session is meant for Ukrainian external lecturers working in the field of explosive ordnance disposal.
The main goal of the project is to support the humanitarian EOD department of the Lviv State University of Life Safety by conducting training sessions based on state-of-the-art technology in Estonia. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of international humanitarian EOD standards in the units of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.
The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and the Lviv State University of Life Safety have signed a cooperation agreement to bring together the knowledge and experience of the specialists of research and education and the experts of the areas of civil protection and the alleviation of the consequences of emergencies and natural disasters. The core of the Estonian project team will include the officials of the EOD centre of the Estonian Rescue Board. The project is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the development and humanitarian aid funds.
